Pakam Undrallu / Rice Balls in Jaggery Syrup / Undrallu Payasam - Vinayaka Chavithi Special Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup small Undrallu
  • 2 sp White Sesame Seeds
  • fistful Dry Coconut Pieces
  • 3/4 cup grated Jaggery
  • 1 pinch Elaichi Powder
  • For Undrallu :
  • 1 small cup Rice Flour
  • 11/2 cup Water
  • 1 sp Ghee

Instructions

  1. Put water in a bowl add ghee into it and bring it to a boil, once it starts boiling reduce the flame then add the rice flour gradually and mix well, turn off the flame and allow it to cool with cover.
  2. When done, knead it well and make small size balls from the dough as shown in the picture bellow, now undrallu/rice balls are ready for pakam.
  3. Heat a pan add sesame seeds and dry roast till they turn light golden brown, then remove from the pan and allow it to cool, once done grind them into fine powder, grind coconut pieces into powder and keep aside. In the meantime, boil jaggery with 1 cup of water on medium flame in a bowl
  4. Once the jaggery melts completely, then filter it to remove impurities and again boil, now add in prepared rice balls and cook them for a couple of mins. Then add in ground powders and mix very well, continue to cook on low flame for 1 min.
  5. Finally sprinkle elaichi powder to enhance the taste and then turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl. Now pakam undrallu are ready as naivedyam/prasadam to Lord Ganesh during the Vinayaka Chavithi Festival.
