Potlakaya Kootu Recipe / Snake Gourd Pepper Stew - Kootu Recipes
Ingredients
- 1 small cup Toor Dal
- 1 cup chopped Snake Gourd Pieces
- 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 Red Chillies
- 1/2 sp Coriander Seeds
- 1/2 sp Chana Dal
- 1/2 sp Urad Dal
- 1/2 sp Pepper Corn
- 1/2 sp Rice
- few Coconut Pieces
- 1" inch Tamarind Flake
- 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 sp Urad Dal
- 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
- 1 Red Chilli crocked
- 1 pinch Inguva
- Curry Leaves
- Coriander Leaves
- 2 sp Oil

Instructions
- Wash and combine toor dal, snake gourd pieces and pressure cook for 3 whistles and let it cool.
- Dry roast above paste ingredients (except tamarind, coconut) and fry till brown color and remove from the heat, leave it to cool.
- Once cooled grind them along with tamarind, coconut into a fine paste by adding little water and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, ground paste and mix it well, cook for 30 sec.
- Then add cooked dal mixture, turmeric powder, salt and stir, if the consistency is too thick add 1/4 cup of water, let it cook for a couple of mins and then turn off the flame.
- Now potlakaya kootu is ready, transfer in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chapati.
