Ingredients

  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • 2 cups Rice Rava / Biyyam Nooka
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 pinch Cooking Soda (optional )

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak urad dal in water for 2-3 hours and drain.
  2. Grind the soaked urad dal to a fine paste with enough water in a blender and transfer it into a bowl.
  3. Add rice rava to ground urad dal paste and combine well, cover and keep aside to ferment over night.
  4. Once the batter is fermented add salt, cooking soda and mix well.
  5. Add enough water to the fermented batter and make it a thick pouring consistency.
  6. Grease the idli plates with little ghee/oil and fill with the idli batter.
  7. Place the idli plates in the idli cooker and cook for 10 to 15 mins.
  8. Once done turn off the heat and leave it for 2-3 mins and remove from the moulds.
  9. Now biyyapa rava idlis are ready to serve, serve hot with chutney and sambar.
